Winner of Adelson Shift!

Hi all!

I hope you ladies are having a fabulous week. Have you done a good deed recently or participated in a service project? Let me know! I am going to be featuring a “Chic and Charitable Person of the Month” on my blog each month from now on. I know that Lilly-loving ladies are the most charitable and compassionate consumers out there…so please do share your wonderful stories in the comment section! You can also nominate someone you know.

Also, thank you so much for being patient with me during the giveaway process. This was my first giveaway and I was completely unprepared, as to how many people would participate in it. It took me over a week to just sift through each email, check for the print screens, and keep count of each participant’s vote. It didn't help that I had to go through 150 emails. Yikes! Then, I had to check my total count with each participant’s total vote count because some of the emails were accidentally deleted by me along the way. I promise that for future giveaways, I will announce winners within days after the contest has ended and it will be much more organized.

By the way, this is the first time I have ever gotten 150 emails within two weeks! I took a print screen just to remember this special moment. :) Thank you all, who sent nice comments and ideas for this blog.

So I compiled a list of participants because I want to praise YOU ALL for making such a great contribution by becoming more aware about other youth-led charities out there. Some of you really went all out and contributed in other ways such as spreading the word about the issue of rape, twittering about Empower Our Youth, and getting your friends to vote. You all really inspired me with your passion for helping others. If you didn’t win, please don’t be disappointed. There will be many many many more opportunities to win something. I am planning on having another giveaway next week with a Lilly Dress from the Summer 2010 collection, once I reach a decision on which charity to feature from the comments you all have posted. Plus, I am planning on having a giveaway every week rather than every other week, once this blog reaches 500 followers. So please tell your friends to become followers as well.

Note: I took the names from the email you sent me. If you sent your print screens from two different emails without telling me, then I counted the votes as under two different participants. If there is a star (*) in front of your vote count, it is because you did not send me back a reply with your total vote count. Therefore, I went with the number I counted. Please contact me at shop4charity2010@gmail.com if you would like me to remove your name for privacy reasons.

April 10, 2010

Hi all!

Sorry for the delay. I am sure that many of you ladies are waiting eagerly for the results as to who won the Adelson Shift contest. I have been working on counting up all of the print screens, which has been taking a lot longer than I had expected because people have been sending them from different email addresses and emails. As I sift through the emails, I am also waiting for the final vote counts from all partipants; 7 people have yet to reply to my emails. So if you're reading this and haven't sent in your final vote count, please send it in by April 12th to be counted! Sorry ladies for such a delay, I promise that the next giveaway (a very beautiful lilly dress of course!) will go a lot smoother and faster.

Check back April 15th for the winner!

Also, I'm currently prepping for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. I know a lot of people feel that breast cancer awareness is "overpromoted" or all over the place. Just a few decades ago, however, women (and men) were afraid to come out and say they were diagonosed with breast cancer. Now, a lot of women are able to share their experiences, an intergral part for fighting the battle and recovering. So if it takes "in your face promotions" and stores full of pink bracelets to raise awareness, then so be it. If you would like to participate in the Avon walk, here is the link to the website: http://www.avonwalk.org/

Nominate a Charity!

Hi all!

If you haven't looked at the two giveaways I'm having for this month, then go look at the others posts below first.

Now, I'm sure everyone has a charity close to their hearts. Maybe it's a charity that researches for autism or one that collects toys for disadvantaged kids. Well, I do know of many charities from my social work background, but I don't know them all! So please share with me in the comment section some charities you would like to see on this blog, especially for the first two weeks of April.

April is sexual assault awareness month. But since I'm currently promoting a non-profit that deals with that for this month...I think it would be better to choose something else. Should I do a foundation that raises money for breast cancer? If I do, I'm hoping to be able to give away the Lilly Pulitzer Linda Marie Dress. Sounds good?

Leave some feedback for me and remember to become a follower!

Contest/Giveaway: Lilly Pulitzer Adelson Shift

(Adelson Shift, Spring 2010, Size 4, winner can exchange for another size)

Hi all!

I hope you all are having a great FIRST day of Spring! I, for one, am super excited...considering this has been a LONG winter . I know you have been waiting patiently for this: the first dress giveaway!! Every 2 weeks, Shop for Charity (i.e me) will be buying 1 Lilly Dress that I feel would most interest my readers. Usually I will choose a smaller size, but if you are chosen as the winner, I will do an exchange of any size for you! I will be giving the dress away for readers, who follow a certain set of rules to enter. Like for some environmental charities, I will ask you send me pictures of your recycling bins or a dress you have reused in a different way. Or for a breast cancer foundation (which I will most likely be the 2nd charity I promote), I will ask you share stories of people you know who have been diagonosed with Breast Cancer and how they overcame it.

Before you enter this giveaway, please look at my last post. It gives some information on the charity I am choosing for this week and the next. For these 2 weeks, I will be focusing on a charity close to my heart, Empower Our Youth (http://www.empowerouryouths.org/) because I am a rape victim and I feel strongly that self-defense classes can help young girls fend off attacks. Do you have a daughter or sister you care about? If you do, check out this wonderful non-profit!

So here's how to enter this contest. Since the Adelson Shift has been sold out in many stores, this is definitely a worthwhile dress to check out:

1) Go to www.at15.com/contests_scholarships/community_impact/empower_our_youth

2) At the top right, there is a blue link that says "JOIN FOR FREE!" Click it.

3) Fill in the information and click "Create new account."

4) Check your e-mail for the password and activation link.

5) Click the activation link, go back to www.at15.com/contests_scholarships/community_impact/empower_our_youth, and vote for Empower Our Youth.

6) You can vote everyday for a maximum impact and help fund self-defense classes for inner-city girls.

So how will the Adelson Shift winner be chosen? From now until April 2nd, anyone who votes everyday once for Empower Our Youth and can prove it, will be entered. You can prove it through various ways, such as taking a print screen of the page each time after you voted and email it to shop4charity2010@gmail.com. If there is more than 1 person, who votes the most (i.e everyday), then a name will be chosen out of the hat.

So enjoy voting and helping other charities! Even though 1 person will only get the Adelson shift, everyone who participates will be recognized in my next post!

Disclaimer: There are many great youth charities on that website too and you should check out their missions. Please do not vote for Empower Our Youth unless you strongly believe in their mission and that inner-city girls should have self-defense and self-esteem building classes too. There will be many more giveaways and contests so please only participate if you honestly support it.

Love,
Jane

Giveaway: Lilly Pulitzer Picture Frame + Album!

Hi all!

Thank you for visiting my blog. I originally was inspired to start this blog after seeing Lilly Pulitzer's (the clothing brands) collaboration with many non-profits such as the Cinderella Project and WWF. So I thought, how could I embody the spirit of my favorite clothing brand? That's when I came up with the idea that I'll focus on a non-profit close to my heart for every two weeks. I will be giving away Lilly dresses and stationary items for bloggers, who participate by either visiting the weekly non-profit's website, sharing a statistic or fact they learned, donating, or just being awesome/altruistic!

So let's shop and make a difference together, preppy ladies!!
Please feel free to suggest a non-profit that you have always supported!

This week, I want to share with you a non-profit that's very close to my heart. First of all, since I was a victim of rape, I especially endorse this non-profit. As a child, I was raped by a close neighbor; he was never caught even though he had been a repeat sex offender. But I may also be biased, considering this non-profit was started by my lovely niece. She started Empower Our Youth, which funds self-defense classes for inner-city kids (who are statistically speaker at a high risk of being victims of sexual violence) and raises awareness of the issue of sexual violence against women and children. By showing girls how to protect themselves, they can better fend off an attack. Awesome huh?

So my first giveaway will be a Lilly Pulitzer picture frame and photo album. These items are tres cute!!

Here's all the possible ways you can enter. Remember to comment with how many entries you completed. You can have up to 5 entries:

1)Become a follower of this blog and a facebook follower of "Empower Our Youth".

Link to facebook page of Empower Our Youth: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Empower-Our-Youth/348084741431?ref=ts

2)Become a follower of “@Empower Our Youth” on twitter and tweet something like “Check out this charity “www.empowerouryouths.org”.

3)Follow my instructions in my second blog on how to support Empower Our Youth by voting for them in the @15 community impact challenge. You just have to vote once for an entry.

4)Email me at shop4charity2010@gmail.com and I can send you a word document that includes instructions on how to vote. Then forward this email to your friends (minimum 25 people).

5) Blog about this blog, or about this non-profit, or both if you would like to!

6) Comment with a good charity that I should focus on 2 weeks from now. It can focus on any issue!! Plus, tell me what Lilly item you want to see gived away 2 weeks from now too. I'll try to make it happen.

Ends: April 15th, 2010
