Nominate a Charity!

Hi all!

If you haven't looked at the two giveaways I'm having for this month, then go look at the others posts below first.

Now, I'm sure everyone has a charity close to their hearts. Maybe it's a charity that researches for autism or one that collects toys for disadvantaged kids. Well, I do know of many charities from my social work background, but I don't know them all! So please share with me in the comment section some charities you would like to see on this blog, especially for the first two weeks of April.

April is sexual assault awareness month. But since I'm currently promoting a non-profit that deals with that for this month...I think it would be better to choose something else. Should I do a foundation that raises money for breast cancer? If I do, I'm hoping to be able to give away the Lilly Pulitzer Linda Marie Dress. Sounds good?

Leave some feedback for me and remember to become a follower!

Love,
Jane

I would love to see a charity for drunk driving. Unfortuently I have lost someone very close to me due to a drunk driver.

I would absolutely love if you could support SIDS research. It isn't as glamorous as so many other charities and it deals with such a sad topic that it doesn't get the press, nor the funds, it needs. A great place to start is http://www.cjsids.org. Thankfully, I haven't lost a baby to SIDS, but my youngest child's godmother lost her grandson November 29, 2009. His 1st birthday would have been April 12, 2010.

Ah Sorry--can you delete the last post? I'm not sure why it showed under that account. This is the correct account that should be tagged--thanks!

What about animal shelters? I know we've all had a pet that has impacted our lives. I'm working with Gainesville Pet Rescue for one of my classes at UF and it's made such an impact on my life.

What about Guardian ad Litem Support. Guardian ad litem programs are where qualified individuals represent the legal interests of children in various family law cases. These programs can make all the difference when it comes to the best interest of the child. I haven't been able to find a US support charity, but I did find one in Ireland. Here is the group's website:

Ooooh I love the Guardian ad Litem Support idea, as I have personally seen a Guardian ad Litem testify to protect a child in a situation where she was being sexually abused by her father, and if the Guardian ad Litem wasn't there to stand up for this little girl no one would have been.... They have to deal with some pretty terrible stuff!

Also, I'm not sure if you're looking for national charities, but I am running a half-marathon this weekend for Lifeworks Austin. They are a charity that focuses on giving at risk teens the skills and education to become productive members of society. They offer parenting classes and GED classes for teen moms, they also offer career classes and computer classes and tutoring, they also offer shelters for homeless teens so that they don't get mixed in with the rest of the homeless population... Anyway it's a great charity but they're local to Austin.

Another charity I've been thinking alot about lately is Mercy Ships, there are several blogs that I read that are written by people who are on Mercy Ships in Africa, these doctors and nurses from all over the world give a lot to be a part of this charity and they do some amazing things... it does however have a religious affiliation....

Or since so many Americans are suffering job loss and losing their homes, food banks are desperately in need of more donations. And that need is also increased as grocery stores are more and more often selling their cast offs to dollar stores rather than donating them... maybe you could feature food banks, especially since April is easter, and food banks often try to give extra amounts around holidays....

So many charities, everyone has such great ideas, I don't know how you're going to pick one!

Oh and I'm a follower!

What a great blog! I would love to see you do a charity for either breast cancer or lung cancer. I lost my dear Aunt Carol last year to lung cancer and would love to do anything to help with respect to cancer research! Best of luck on your blog!!!

A few of my favorite charities are: Prevent Child Abuse America, Children's Miracle Network, and the Make A Wish Foundation! My little brother (who is now a very healthy 19 year old) was diagnosed with lymphoma during his freshman year of high school...Children's Miracle Network and the Make a Wish Foundation did so many amazing things for him and our family. I know any support makes a huge difference! I'm so glad I found your blog! What a great mission!

ummmmm don't wanna upset anyone, but BREAST CANCER awareness is ALL OVER....even PINK appliances....PICK a charity that is less supported. I have a VERY VERY dear friend who is in her 30's with Cervical cancer....I MUST suggest something that would benefit that. She attends Gilda's club meetings religiously and has lost SOOO many of her friends.

Hi Jane!

You are amazing! I love what you are doing with your blog. Some charities that I would LOVE to see you promote are Cinderellas Closet, prom season is fast approaching and with the economy being so bad there are many young ladies who can not afford to buy a dress and may miss out of the milestone of attending prom without donations of gowns and dresses. I donate to my local Cinderellas Closet and they also have accepted beaded/fancy handbags, shoes & jewelry that I donated. We can all help to make prom happen for young ladies who may be at a financial disadvantage.

Other favorite charities of mine are Make A Wish, ASPCA & Ovarian Cancer non-profits.

I believe we all can make a difference and can give a little, even if not money we can always give our time and it does not cost a thing to spread awareness.

xx Sue

PS~ I LOVE the ideas posted above about Guardian At Litem support, in my state they are all volunteers, I am going through the training and our state organization is called CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and it is a non-profit organization

Being a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta, my middle name has become philanthropic! I have always been a die hard Susan G. Komen fan, and am now just as big a fan of the C.A.S.A. Foundation. C.A.S.A. stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate. CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children, to make sure they don’t get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system or languish in an inappropriate group or foster home. They stay with each case until it is closed and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. This past april we, the Eta Theta Chapter, held our annual spring fling and were pleased to have raised over 1,500 Dollars for the C.A.S.A. Foundation. This coming Wednesday, March 31st we are holding a new event. Fiesta De C.A.S.A., I am super excited about the event, as it is something we have not done before and because it is also on my 21st birthday, and the FIRST event in our new house. We will be selling T-shirts, serving some great mexican food, and holding a great raffle. WISH US LUCK!!!!!

Hi Jane,
I would love to see you get behind one of my favorite charities. Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). At the age of 4, Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of volunteers across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $25 million towards fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 80 research projects nationally.

www.AlexsLemonade.org

This summer we are hosting a lemonade stand at the Sartaoga Springs, NY Horse Race track. I think it would be quite fitting if you chose something in the GIDDY UP print! I am sure Lilly would approve. Thank you so much in advance for your consideration. :D
